The Opel GT celebrates its 50th anniversary on the legendary Road 66
50 years ago, in 1968, the Opel GT was born. A magnificent little car with the false airs of a Corvette. After a real success in Europe, it has become emblematic in the United States, where more than 70% of production (103,463 cars) has been registered.
To celebrate this anniversary, Opel GT enthusiasts organized a 2,000 km, 8-day road trip ‘Birthday Tour’ into Nevada to tread the asphalt of the legendary Road 66. This tour of honour will continue in Europe, with the Association of European Clubs of Opel GT inviting all its members to Germany, from 18 to 22 September, for a beautiful stroll starting from Rüsselsheim, the cradle of Opel where the Opel GT was born and was produced from 1968 to 1973.
This small but strong car has some horsepower under the hood with two four-cylinder engines: a 1.1-litre and 60 hp block from the Kadett and the 1.9-litre 90 hp from the Rekord. Elegant, sporty and efficient, the GT 1900 was passing from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.5 seconds and was going up to 185 km/h.
